Word of the Day: Ruching

Today's word is not a new one to me, and I'm sure it's not new to many people. The thing that had me confused the other day was the spelling.

I was messaging my sister a few days ago, and I was describing a blouse to her. I told her that it had "rushing." Then I corrected myself and said "rouching." Then I realized I had no clue how to spell the word! My silly Blackberry did not provide the correct spelling with spell check (don't get me started on my 3 yr old BB!!!). So, what else could I do but to head over to Wikipedia. For once, Wikipedia did not provide a satisfying explanation, so I found an article on wisegeek.com.

Ruching - a French term which means to gather, ruffle, or pleat; the term is a sewing technique in which fabric or ribbon is gathered in a repeating pattern to form ruffles, scallops, or petals.

There you have it. Ruching. R-U-C-H-I-N-G. Now we all know how it's spelled.

Not sure why I chose all wedding pics to showcase the style, but I'm loving each of these dresses :)

Flower Power

Women are so lucky. We have so many options when it comes to accessorizing. Today, I took my work outfit up a notch and added this pink flower pin. It gave it the right element of fun with a touch of style. The great thing about these pins is that they can also double as a hair accessory. There are two sets of clips on the back that allow for this dual purpose...one to hook in your clothes and the other to slide through the hair. I had some more fun with my outfit by playing with the colors. I was pleased with how well the blue mixed with the purple printed blouse, and the pink flower pin just brought the colors together even more. What about you guys? Do you accessorize with flowers?

Winter for a Day

We've been having spring-like temperatures these days, but yesterday we experienced winter for a day. I woke up early and headed out wearing a hoodie, only to be shocked by how cold it was. Hopped in my car, turned on the engine, and the thermostat said 29 degrees! Say what now?!?! Whatever happened to those nicer temperatures when I could wear a skirt without tights! Never mind the fact that I was up early on a Saturday (so unlike me!), but did it have to be cold??? I made sure to dress warmer before heading out again when I got home about an hour later. For evening, I also made sure to bundle up before heading out yet again. Remember the boots that I mentioned in my shopping miracle at DSW? Well, here they are. Comfy and stylish at the same time. They're definitely my favorite pair!

I'm Dreaming of Spring

I'm dreaming of spring and lots of bright colors. One style combo that I'm loving is bright skinny jeans and striped tops. It's so vibrant and fresh. Unfortunately, the groundhog saw it's shadow today (today being Groundhog Day), so that means that there will be six more weeks of winter. Booooo!  I'm still trying to understand Groundhog Day and how this little animal determines when winter will end. Either way, the temperatures that we've been having feel very spring-like, so I don't think winter ever really started.
